Faculty Position in Architecture: Design Computing
The Department of Architecture in the Stuckeman School at the Pennsylvania State University is seeking an exceptional individual for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor.
The candidate should have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, research and/or creative practice that integrates architecture and design computing.
The successful candidate is expected to integrate design computing throughout the architectural curriculum, in design studios as well as lecture and seminar courses in design, computation and building fabrication.
We encourage applications from individuals whose research may include: computational techniques of architectural design and making; ecological thinking of the contemporary conditions of our built –historic and contemporary- environment; and virtual spaces. An awareness of digital architectural practice, mass-customization and digital fabrication is desirable, including emerging modes of computational practices and interdisciplinary research. The candidate will bring intellectual leadership to this area of design and help expand existing computation curricula. A demonstrated interest in inter- and crossdisciplinary collaboration in teaching and research within the College and University is desired. The appointee will be expected to pursue a clear and strong research, creative/scholarly, or professional agenda, as well as contribute to the University and the professional communities. A terminal degree in architecture is required. Professional experience, architectural licensure and a Ph.D. degree are preferred. Demonstrated ability to take a leadership role in graduate education is essential. Candidates are expected to provide service to the university, society and the profession.
The Department of Architecture supports a multiplicity of theories and methodologies contributing to today’s expansive architectural discourse. The department maintains strong ties to related disciplines on campus, including Architectural Engineering, Art History, Computing, Graphic Design, Landscape Architecture, Social, Biological and Material Sciences, Philosophy, and Visual and Performing Arts. We expect the successful candidate to contribute to the advancement of scholarship in the department, and specifically within the Design Computing research cluster, and make significant contribution to the Stuckeman Center for Design Computing. Applicants should be able to contribute to the advancement of interdisciplinary teaching, research, and creative practice at Penn State.
